Oh... Now I know, it's the Navigator!!!! I think GTO should create a directory for all Navigator dumps for future help. Or is it already there I guess?

The pictures are cool anyways.

Nutty Nair, that is a long drive from TVM, even assuming that you take the super0fast NH7 till Rasipuram, am sure once the rains start, the Kerala High Ranges will keep you busy! You can combine with a trip to Elagiri Hills and Yercaud too.

Hi Ranjan

the Special Guy with the Special vehicle has posted a reply to Nutty Nair just before this post of mine.

this guy seems to remember everything, all roads, turns, pot holes, toll gates, diversions, ghats, plains, etc. etc. He has ton's of logs.

He replies to every question posted to him, He attends every call for help as far as info on Indian roads are concerned. I have also experienced this once.

Lalu went with this guy to Leh last year, there were some ruboff effects on Lalu as well.

Present, sir. Ranjan, I generally keep log books of my drives and that has become a good collection of routes all over India. We all try to document our trips, it is quite useful for anyone driving the same route later.

Ranjith, that'd be a long drive. Like HVK said Yelagiri, Yercaud would be a good addition. You can finish Kolli hills and climb Yercaud and stay there for a couple of days. I'll get you the log from my last trip to TVM for a comparison.

Thanks neo.
Its very much doable. But do watch out for your breaks in between the journey. It kills time for the place. Just drive flat out to kolli hills.

+1 to what you said Laluks.

Yes. I saw a couple of HVK's logs. I asked him whether he uses any gps tracking device to get such wonderful logs.
He replies that, they are all jotted down using pen and paper.
I was like

I've got some gps logs since the last 2 months. And I'm still lazy enough to mark the points in that, convert them to csv / xls format to upload here.

Here's the King jotting them down the traditional way.

Ranjith - this is for your query.

Please find the recent Trivandrum - Bangalore trip log

Time --- KM ----- Place
16:15 -- 000.0 -- Home, Trivandrum
17:07 -- 039.1 -- Kaliyikkavilai
17:23 -- 046.6 -- Left turn to Thripparappu water falls
18:12 -- 071.8 -- Nagercoil, Tirunelveli Left turn
18:40 -- 088.8 -- Police Checkpost Arulvamozhi
18:46 -- 094.1 -- Right turn to Kanyakumari - 23Km super roads. Super Nh7 starts (few diversions)
22:00 -- 330.8 -- Kodai road Jn., Kodaikanal 86Km to Left, Dindigul 33km, Bangalore 403Km,
22:05 -- 340.9 -- Kodai Road Toll Booth (Rs 37/- one way)
22:55 -- 402.2 -- Velanchettiyur Toll Booth (Rs 54/- one way)
23:39 -- 475.7 -- Rasam palayam Toll Booth (Rs 29/- one way)
00:30 -- 540.2 -- Salem
00:45 -- 551.8 -- Omalur Toll Booth (Rs 34/- one way)
01:14 -- 589.9 -- Thoppur Toll Booth (Rs 48/- one way)
02:00 -- 656.6 -- Krishnagiri Toll Booth (Rs 25/- one way)
02:43 -- 712.2 -- Attible Toll Booth (Rs 20/- one way)
02:54 -- 727.2 -- Elevated flyover Toll Booth (Rs 30/- one way)
02:57 -- 735.8 -- Elevated Flyover Exit ( do your maths )
03:15 -- 754.1 -- Home, Bangalore

That makes it 11 hours Trivandrum - Bangalore. This is easily doable in 10 hours and the 1 hour delay was attributed to heavy rains during the trip.

7.5 hours from Arulvamozhi (665Kms) where the 4 lane starts.
2.5 hours for Arulvamozhui Trivandrum 88Kms, due to 2 lane narrow and congested roads.

The onward journery saw us in Kanyakumari from Bangalore in 7.5 hours.

For Ranjith's plan of a trip to Kolli Hills from Trivandrum, the extrapolation from my recent driving experience looks like this.

00:00 -- 000.0 -- Trivandrum
00:52 -- 039.1 -- Kaliyikkavilai
01:08 -- 046.6 -- Left turn to Thripparappu water falls
01:57 -- 071.8 -- Nagercoil, Tirunelveli Left turn
02:25 -- 088.8 -- Police Checkpost Arulvamozhi
02:31 -- 094.1 -- Right turn to Kanyakumari - 23Km super roads. Super Nh7 starts (few diversions)
05:45 -- 330.8 -- Kodai road Jn., Kodaikanal 86Km to Left, Dindigul 33km, Bangalore 403Km,
05:50 -- 340.9 -- Kodai Road Toll Booth (Rs 37/- one way)
06:40 -- 402.2 -- Velanchettiyur Toll Booth (Rs 54/- one way)
07:24 -- 475.7 -- Rasam palayam Toll Booth (Rs 29/- one way)
08:01 -- 529.9 -- Take Right Turn from NH7 to Rasipuram(4Km more)
08:07 -- 533.4 -- Rasipuram, Take Right Turn to SH79
08:14 -- 536.1 -- Take Right from SH79 Turn to SH95
08:37 -- 554.1 -- Take Left Turn from SH95 to Kolli Hills
08:42 -- 563.4 -- Entrance arch to Kolli Hills
08:43 -- 563.8 -- Check Post
09:57 -- 584.4 -- Sholakad, Check Post / Toll Booth (Rs 10/-)
10:07 -- 588.0 -- Petrol Pump, Turn Left
10:08 -- 588.3 -- Kolli Hills Resort
10:17 -- 588.6 -- Take left Turn
10:37 -- 598.4 -- Temple
10:42 -- 599.4 -- Parking Lot. (Rs 30/-)

Nearly 11 hours of drive required. So it makes sense to club a lot near Salem like Yercaud and make the trip for a couple of days !!

Sorry. I see many post explaining this.

ya, HVK is one person who do consultant job [ofcourse for free] to even NP lorry drivers

Jokes apart. Sometimes I feel that this person is not enjoying the beauty but keep updating his logs while driving. But other times I feel that this info is very important.

Anyway, with the current gadgets, this job has become less hassle.

Sorry lalu for this OT.

Continue.

Sir, I am looking to go on a long drive after June. Any idea about the climate in the above mentioned places in Jun/July? Yes, the Kerala High Ranges are also on the agenda.

Lalu, thanks for the route map. I will combine these places if I am going for this drive. But I don't think me & my friends will be able to complete the journey in the said time. We drive in a more relaxed (read that as lazy) way, stopping to click many photos on the way.

After the rains Yercaud will be nice. Yelagiri is just another hill, just drive up and down for the fun
You'll also reach in the same time. Its just the NH7 and you can click only roads
