Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

My ZX CVT is on 195/60/R16 since last 6 months. No issues with ride quality, handling or Mileage.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Also upsized the 185/55 R16s with 195/55 R16s. The difference is night and day. UC6s are much calmer and the grip is commendable. Also, I have noticed a slightly higher sidewall, resulting in a better ground clearance. These should've actually been the stock tyres.
Ditto, I did the same and used UC6 for the above configuration the same day of delivery. The difference is truly visible and definitely confidence increasing.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

2. Keep the current 15 inch alloys and upgrade just the tyres to 205-55/15. Final Deviation is 0.67 % with a Ground Clearance Change of 2.0 mm. Best option to my pocket.

Inputs appreciated on stability, comfort and fuel efficiency changes.
In my opinion, option 2 makes the most practical sense in terms of all 3 you quoted above.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Hi, I am getting a new Honda City V MT delivered on Tuesday (10th Oct) in Chennai from Sundaram Honda. The stock tyre size is 185/60 R15. I want to upsize the tyre as soon as I take delivery.

My priorities are:
a) Fuel efficiency.
b) better grip and handling at high speeds (140/150 kmph).
c) Low noise & smooth ride.

It doesn't matter if the tyre's lifespan is a bit less. I want to have a good time driving this car throughout my ownership.

I need your help to finalise the tyre brand and tyre size from the following options I have narrowed down to:

Trye brands:
1. Continental UC6
2. Continental CC6
3. Yokohama Earth 1
4. Yokohama BluEarth GT AE51

Tyre size:
1. 195/60 R15 - Final deviation is 1.98%
2. 205/55 R15 - Final deviation is 0.67%

Please suggest if you have any other size or brand outside of these options as well.

Thank you!

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Posting this for a friend of mine.

He currently has a Honda City eHev which runs on Bridgestone Ecopia - 185/55/R16. Feels it is undersized and is considering the following sizes for replacement 195/55/R16 or 205/55/R16. He'd like advice for the same.

Brands in consideration:

Pirelli Cinturato P1 Verde195/55 R 16 Tubeless 87 H
CINTURATO P7™ ALL SEASON195/55R16

His daily usage is 80 km which includes both highway and city traffic. He is mainly looking for a smooth and comfortable ride with good handling. He'd preffer the Michelin but it is not locally available.

Will the 10 MM increase in 195/55/R16 cause a stiff ride? The 80KM he travels includes bad roads and city potholes. He needs a comfortable ride to avoid back pain due to this daily commute to office.

Pirelli doesn't have 205/50/R16. Yokohama Earth has, but he is unsure of its ride quality and would like to hear from others about it.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Hi All,

Has anyone here run their Honda City on 17s ?

I'm looking to purchase Lenso Jager Dyna 17 inches. Inquired at car decor and car trendz bangalore and the suggested tyres profiles were:

car decor- 225/45/r17
car trendz - 205/50/r17

I figure 225 is too excessive for the power Honda City has and 205 would be a perfect choice. I'm aware of the stiffer ride the 17s will have but I'd still like to try 17s once.

Any tyre recommendations for the same are also welcome.

Hello,

195/55/R16 will be recommended in this case. You can also think of getting Continental UC6 in the list.

Been personally using them for a while now. No stiffness felt and handling has been good even in rainy days.

I will be taking delivery of my 2023 VX CVT in 2 weeks time. And since this is the 2023 MMC, the VX also comes with the stock 185/60 R15, and so I am on the same plate as you are @samsun@0709. In fact my priorities are the same as well.

I just want to add that option 1 - going to 195/60 R15 will result in a ground clearance increase of 6 mm, and going with option will result in a ground clearance increase of 2 mm.

Please suggest folks which is the better, recommended upsize option? Thanks in advance.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

I got delivery of my City in October and changed the stock tyres the next day. I got Yokohama Blu Earth AE 51 and am very happy with it. Got 195/60 R15. Bought the tyres at Lal tyre dealers in Chennai on Whites Road. Paid 10K in addition to exchanging the stock tyres (did not change the spare tyre).

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Thanks samsun@0709. Can I ask if you are able to notice any difference in the steering feel/feedback, handling at high speeds, mileage, and ground clearance?

Appreciate your feedback.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Hi All, I just wanted to add that I went with MRF Perfinza 195/60 R15 since I have heard positive feedback overall about this product, and also since it was more affordable for me compared to other brands.

Thanks.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

I went to enquire for tyres for my Honda City ZX CVT 2019 model. Stock size 185/55r16.

The person at the store said that 195/55R16 is the ideal size while I was more inclined towards 205/50R16.

Also, I was inclined towards Conti UC6 after reading reviews here on the forum and second choice was Yoko BlueEarth. He didn't have Conti and for Yoko he said it's better to buy Earth1 as BlueEarth are on softer side and people have complained of sidewall cuts. While he agreed that 205/50R16 was more closer to the ideal upgrade but he said people usually upgrade to 195. Then I kept 185, 195 and 205 tyres side by side and to me it seemed as if 205 was too broad.

I settled down for 195/55R16 but then the question was which brand. He said if I can wait for 2-3 weeks then he can get me Michelin Primacy 4 ST. When I heard Michelin I thought I will wait and that will give me some time to get feedback from fellow BHPians about this tyre.

Has anyone got primacy 4 ST and more specifically in 195/55/R16 size? Any feedback would be helpful in making the final decision.

I upgraded to Michelin Primacy 4ST 195/55/R16 as soon as I got the delivery of (Our Red Starsky | 5th-gen Honda City CVT Review). It is an excellent upgrade, so much so that the person who came over to take my car for servicing himself commend the smoothness of drive and improved NVH owing to the Michelin.

As I have not personally tried either of Conti or Yoko, so I cannot give you a fair comparison. However as a satisfied user of Michelin, I can vouch for its road worthiness.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Hi folks.

Got my City ZX CVT on 11th December. It came with the stock Ecopias, which I intended to swap immediately.
Spoke to a few dealers and a couple of them told me about Michelins not being available or available only on the grey market and with no warranty. Either way, I was leaning towards the Yokos anyway since over the last 15 years, have used 5 sets of Yokos on my cars (2 C Drives, 2 Geolanders, 1 Earth). I've had no complaints and have found no reason to switch over the years.

Took it straight to the tyre shop and got a set of Blue Earth GTs. 195/55/R16. Immediately, I could tell the difference. The ride got smoother, there was a marked reduction in tyre noise and I noticed a lot less rolling resistance. I haven't driven it enough to tell the difference in the handling.

What also pushed me a little more towards the Yokos is the unconditional warranty on offer. If your tyre has 50% tread left, upto 50k km or 4-5 years (can't remember), Yokohama will reimburse you on a pro-rata basis incase of any damage to the tyre due to any reason, not just a manufacturing defect.

The car has only run 300 odd km. Will post an update once there are some more miles on it.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Folks, need some suggestions on tyre upgrade for my Honda City VX Petrol model from 2017.

Currently running Bridgestone Ecopias 195/55/16. Stock tyres were 185/55/16 and hence not sure if I can upgrade to 205 section tyres.
