Okay I usually get the air pressure topped up once a week as it is. Any particular reason you have suggested me to do so?

That is the most important factor in your tire's good health. Top it up at home once a week or two weeks before the vehicle is used.

I would suggest buying smaller size alloys from the showroom itself.

I had gotten aftermarket alloy wheels for my car, but that affected the high-speed stability. (Even after alignment) It didn't inspire confidence for me at least. I was able to source smaller Volvo branded wheels from the showroom.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. The car fortunately is running fine, I got MOMO alloys, work already done. The company quoted me 50-60k per alloy. That plus tyres was out of my budget. I have taken the valuable suggestions of people going through the same problem and till now there seems to be no issue with the car running. So fingers crossed!

A thousand thanks to everyone who has replied , and given their valuable suggestions. To those who are suffering from what I have gone through, please go ahead and read this post. It is quite helpful.
Those new 17s looks slick and goes really well on your S60!

Did you end up doing the recalibration to make sure your speedo reads correct ? I was told that the wheel speed sensor, ABS, ESP etc needs recalibration when you wheel/tyre dimensions change.

This otherwise is definitely on my cards next and thanks for inspiring confidence!

Thank you so much. I have not gotten any of the above done. Car seems fine, although now that you mention the ABS and ESP needs recalibration, I will look into it, as it is a matter of safety. I will connect with the Volvo dealer in Gurgaon and ask him if that needs to be done. Thank you so much for informing me of this.
My pleasure, my confidence was inspired by the knowledgeable members here, and Im quite happy with my decision.

The Change over is well within limits, there is no re calibration needed whatsoever. As a Matter of fact, these cars usually come with different tyre/rim sizes between variants. So apart from a slightly different speedo/odo reading, there won't be any difference.

The new momo rims look great. You can also look into using nitrogen since it can help keep temperatures in control over the cemented highways which heat up the tires. Not sure if it was yours but I used to frequently spot similar color volvo on giant rims in sec 40 gurgaon and wondered how it's surviving in the giant potholes around town

Yeah Ive come to like them more than the original ones. I have started using nitrogen now because I use the Delhi-Agra-Lucknow Expressway 2-3 times a year and till Agra its cemented.
Could be me, honestly, I have only seen one more S60 with the same colour and rims in Gurgaon.

What a timing !
My S60 is due in a couple of days and now I am wondering whether to keep the stock tyres - 235/45/R18 Continental PremiumContact 6 or change to Michelin Primacy 4ST 245/45/R18 as psispace suggested?

If you are happy with the tire profile then go for Michelins, I have changed my profile from 18" to 17" with 225/R17's. Im quite happy with the ride and handling, its much better. The alloys would be an additional expenditure of approx 60k, but money well spent.

Hi Kratant,

I am also using Volvo S60 D5 variant and I am also facing the same problem with 18 inchers.

I would like to know how is your experience with 17 inch tires after using it for almost 11 months.

Is it worth spending almost Rs 1 lakhs on new wheels and tires?

Re: 18" wheels of my car are troublesome | Frequent tyre damages | EDIT: Moved to 17-inchers

Hi Sagar,
It is definitely worth spending the amount on new alloys (17"). I am mentally quite relieved in going through the entire exercise. In fact, coincidentally I took it to Kanpur from Delhi (my most usual route) two weeks ago, safe to say my car came back with perfect tires, not a single bubble. Volvo recommended 33 PSI for all tires, but I still got nitrogen filled to 30 PSI, since both the expressways en-route are high speed expressways. I would say don't think about it twice and go for it.

Re: 18" wheels of my car are troublesome | Frequent tyre damages | EDIT: Moved to 17-inchers

Hi Kratant:

I randomly stumbled on this blog while doing some research for my car. How are the alloys and tyres doing?

I own a 2016 Volvo S60 D4 with R18, 245/40. I got new Michelin Pilot 3 last year, but I face the same problems as enunciated by you. Simply, Gurgaon roads are too violent for these tyres to operate. Within 18,000 KM of running, I have damaged two tyres. First one was an exterior side wall pinch. Thankfully, the damage was only cosmetic in nature, which I got satisfactorily repaired. The other recent one (last week) was a full fledged pinch running through the side wall of the carcass.

I am wondering what options I have as I have only 2 years of ownership left? I have got a quote of New R17 inch Momo RIMs and tyre, which is above 1 .3L expense. It is beyond budget as I will be selling the car next year.

I am thinking the best option is to have brand new R18 245/40 tyres with some kind of unconditional warranty [getting Bridgestone and Ceat] from the manufacturer, and keep the fingers crossed.
