Re: Offset for Honda Civic

Guys,

Came across these awesome 17 inch wheels for the Civic. I'm thinking of going the 225/45 R17 way, as there is a high probability of a turbo coming my way too.

Question is, what offset should I choose? Want the meaty planted look (but no inner / outer scraping ). Different offset options for the 17x7 wheels are:

20 (back spacing 121)
35 (back spacing 136)
40 (back spacing 141)
45 (back spacing 145 / 146)

Thanks!

Rush, 225 tyres will be +35mm on stock size. You need to check in the wheel well whether that much additional width (coupled with 17x7 instead of stock 15x6.5) is possible. The various things to check are:
* inner wheel well
* Outer wheel well and wheel well covers
* Turn steering full left & full right, and check clearance in front and back. Usually, when the wheel is turned, situation is more drastic.

Now, assuming 225 tyres can go in, the issue is the following. If the ET remains same as OEM, then inner surface goes 17.5mm inside and outer surface goes 17.5mm outside. Using ET 40, inner side=12.5mm & outer side=23mm. I would recommend this option, as changing ET more (to ET35) will cause more imbalanced load on the suspension and tierod wrt OEM design...

BTW, what do you mean by back spacing ?

It's on the wider side, when compared to the wheel wells of other cars.

Done & THANK YOU. Confirming ET of 40.

Re: Offset for Honda Civic

noticed that I mistook tyre width difference as 35mm instead of the correct 30mm (195 -> 225). So, all the calculated values above reduce by 2.5mm (5/2).

==> inner side = 10mm & outer side = 20.5mm with ET40
