i think 195/60 r14 would be the right upgrade (eh tyrebhagwaan?) and you can try michelin mx1s in that size. they will give you good comfort.
akshay could you enlighten us about potenza GIII

my getz has g3s and my innova and my baleno had g3s. and frankly after using better tyres i say theyre horrible. the ride quality is hopeless and the only + point is the grip you get which again is nothing in comparison to proper performance tyres. also production has been stopped everywhere else in the world besides here.

Thanks a ton buddies for your support!

1. Well I haven't confirmed from the dealer about the warranty void after upgrades, will do that.

2. Well even if dealer rejects to do so, I will still change my tyres or upgrade to 14", as the ride with those goodyears tubetype is very annoying (very Harsh)

3. The dealer at which I liked the allloys have 14" and 13" both for the same design but the tyres he is saying the best would be Yokohama A drive, I have been using the same tyres in my Innova and had a very positive response from them. Following the posts I have seen that Michelins are even better than yokohamas and want to try them this time. What do you folks suggest, Is yokohama A drive better or I should go for Michelins.

4. Price offered for A drive 14" is 3200, Is this price ok

5. If Michelins then which one..?

6. Michelins have track suit on offer, does Yokos have any scheme going on with them..?

4. What size is it?

5. Michelin XM1 + 185/60-14

6. They had a pen drive offer sometime back. Not sure if it still exists

hello, what tyres did you go for ? and what size at what price ,need some advice on the same as a friend of mine is taking delivery of a Ikon TDCi on Monday.
The Size i have suggested is 195/55R14 , now my only question is will this size foul with the wheel arches on a full lock ?

@Muneemji, the 185/60-14 Yoko A-Drive's on my TDCi are doing fine. 3200 looks a good price.

Best Alloy size and Tyres for IKON TDCI

Hello friends,
I am taking delivery of my FORD IKON TDCI on 28 December 09(fooled the dealer for extending the delivery date)

I want to upsize to 14 inch alloys preferably the FORD 14 inch alloys that come for the fiesta as I think that will prevent the FORD dealer from voiding my warranty for upsizing.

what will be the correct size for the tires..
I prefer not ruin the fuel economy and ride confort. The only reason i am in for the upsize coz the stock tyres/rims(R13) look too small for the IKON

Thanks in advance.

+1. Even i was told by the ford service manager that the warranty would be void if upsize by wheel. So i stuck to the stock size for my car.

our fellow member condor suggested me tyres/upsize of 185/60 R14 for My IKON TDCI, I'll be taking the 14'' alloys from the dealer and hope that the dealer doesnt ruin my warranty.

can anyone tell me the rough prices for good tires of above specs or any link to indian websites showing the same(i have gone insane googling last 1 hour).

P.S I cannot afford more than 15k for the tyres(5 tyres)
thanks in advance

ok I just went through this calculator in some website and got some neat comparision looks like 185/60 R14 is the best upsize for IKON TDCI

Tyres for Diesel josh! Ford iKon TDCi-tyre-upsize.jpg

the thing that troubles me is when upsizing we need to keep the overall diametre of the tyre close to that of the OEM tyres

well then whats bad with 185/70 R13 that way I will not risk voiding the warranty as the alloys will be 13 inches and I will have broader tyres too

please help clear the confusion

@Agent009, you are correct about keeping the overall diameter of the tyre to as close as possible to the OEM tyres. Good thing that - reading up on this.

Tires spec's are a combination of width, aspect & radius. As you increase the width, you need to decrease the aspect ratio. If you dont ,the tire will be come bigger in dia.

So, if you compare the calculationsin your post, the closet in outer dia (when compared to stock tires) is the 185/60 R14. The difference is only 0.44%. If you use 185/70 R13, the difference is 2.38%. - almost 2% more.

If you want to stick to R13 but go for 185 width, then you will have to search for 185/65 R13 - not 185/70 R13. Even with 185/65 R13, the difference is 0.78% - more than what you will get with 185/60 R14.

Check out the Tire Bible section in carbibles.com for a good explanation.

To sum it up :

stock : 175/70 R13
Closest upsize : 185/60 R14
Next closest : 185/65 R13

If you know who all got the Michelin's for 3.7k, check with them. Michelin's are going to be a little more expensive than others. I'm using Yoko A-drives. Also check Bridgestone .. or ping one of the tyre guru's here.
