Old Honda City Type 2 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi All,

Im planning on changing/upgrading the tyres of my OHC and am a bit confused so I need your help and expertise to make the right choice and to confirm if the price being offered by the local dealer is OK.

The OHC is not my primary car so would not like to spend a bomb on it but at the same time, I dont mind spending a little more to get something better.

1st option is to stick to stock, 175/70 R13 - Bridgestone tube type for Rs. 3100/- and Goodyear tube type for Rs. 2500/- OR Yokohama tubeless for Rs. 2800/-.

2nd option is to upgrade and here the first phatka will be on the alloys.
The dealer is offering me Yokohama tubeless ES100's 195/60 R14 for Rs. 3700/-. According to him, this is the best upgrade for the OHC.

Any other options? Im looking for good looks but not at the cost of performance.

Appreciate your inputs, Thanks

Yuvi

I would recommend going for an upsize. The 195/60 R14 is you best choice. You are being taken for a ride as im getting the ES100's for 3200 a piece and the Michelin XM1+ for 3650 a piece. PM me if you want details of my tyre dealer. But if budget/cash is a problem the you could stick to the stock size, else go in for wider tyres. Lets allow the tyre guru's to suggest something on this.

Thanks alot Ripper.

Guess what... my local dealer is offering me the XM1+ for 3200 a piece. He sure seems to have got his pricing mixed up :P. I surely need a good dealer, have pmed you, Thanks

In the mean time, im pretty much spoilt for looks on the ES 100's but then again 25K for alloys and tyres. I wouldn't mind spending that kinda money on a new car but on a old & secondary vehicle, it sure seems like a stretch.

Another option I was thinking of was to stick to the stock RIMS and change to the ES 100's for now. Can take a call on the alloys later(In any case, there is an ocean out there when it comes to alloys). Are the ES 100 available in R13 size?

Let me know what you think and waiting for Guru's on the board to respond, Thanks

Yuvi

Question is, if you want alloys then 195/60/14 or 185/65/14 is your option.

Remain stock and get 185/70/13, simple!

yuv, in purely theoretical terms, 195x50R15 is the most perfect upsize for your car. try to find good deals on 15 inch wheels.

Thanks alot guys. I have narrowed down on the tyre size and now the choice is between 195/60/14 and 195/50/15.

Im bought into the design of the ES100's but my dealer says Yoko dont make tyres in the 195/50/15 size.

The difference in the diameter is more then 2.5%... i.e. 2.61% incase of the 195/60/14's so im not so sure about them.

I dont want the tyres touching or steering becoming very hard at any cost, which would do better in that department from the 2 options? Thanks

Hi All,

I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a set of ES100's & new alloys in 195/60 R14.

The ride is amazing... just the right combi of grip and smoothness.

Thanks alot to ankitahuja, blacmagic, sushrutha and especially Ripper.

Ripper has a great dealer(JP), unfortunately he didnt have my rims but I would recommend him any day.

Pictures to follow soon....
Cheers!

But no fear as i'm still here. Don't remember how much I paid exactly at that time but it had been by far the best investment in my OHC so I would say go for it!
Unless offcourse they have stopped manufacturing them.
