If you are not planning to change your stock alloy rims which I believe is 6J size or less, stick to 195/60 section tyres. Though theoritically you can fit 205 section, it is not advisable.

Any particular reason for this?

The side wall flex will be more. Google for rim size vs tyre size and you will have a clear idea. Also getting an after market rim of 6J or less is also not easy. I tried a lot to find a 6J size rim for my 195 section tyres but finally settled with 6.5J Lenso.

Hi all,
I was contemplating on a wheel upgrade for my Polo TDI trendline. While doing calculations I noticed something wierd. The polo highline sits ~14mm higher than a trendline or comfortline according to my calculations. :confused:

Highline:
R15 = 381mm
Sidewall height = 60% of 185 = 111mm
Total height = 381 + 111 = 492 mm

Trendline/Comfortline:
R14 = 355.6mm
Sidewall height = 70% of 175 = 122.5mm
Total height = 355.6 + 122.5 = 478.1

What am I doing wrong?

You are definitely wrong. Check with the tyre size calculator.

Hi guys,

I desperately need help with upgrading my tyres on my Polo 1.6. I have been searching for the 205/55/R15 size and the only tyre availble with this size are the Yokohama S-Drives. Apparently no other brand seems to have this size and I have checked with almost all well known tyre shops in Mumbai.

What is going on? This is driving me nuts!!

What about Continental CPC2? Check out changemytyre.com

OT: Did you end up upgrading to 205/50 R16s on your swift?

As per reviews CPC2 don't cut it. My Swift had 205/55/R15.

I think I may end up with 16" rims on my Polo clap:

I am assuming you are going with 205/50 R16s. Are you getting the S drives?

Well the size is spot on and S-Drives are an option. Other options are Michelin and Pirelli

Hi,

I need some advice on upgrading the tyres in my polo 1.2 tdi. Right now I have the stock 14" 175/70. I used a calculator and according to that 14" 205/60 is also a nice fit. My question is that will it be an overkill for polo? And would the tyres be rubbing against the sides?

Probably an overkill for the TDI as 205 patch is quite wide and will affect both fuel economy and performance. Also see if the narrow rim width of your steel wheels falls within the recommended range for 205s.

I have HRS alloys and according to the tyre dealer 205s would fit well on them. If not 205 then how about 195/65? You think they would be any good?

I think 195/65 will be a better bet as you will have a wider range of tyre options and maximum sidewall height of -4.99". Do share pictures with us after the upgrade!

Had got a Polo TDi Trendline last year, and apart from an Audio System and Rear Parcel Shelf hadn't done much else to the stock car. The car was primarily my wife's drive and I used the Fluence and now the Bimmer. I found the Polo and nice lil city run about and for the past year have been procrastinating about a few minor upgrades;
1. Getting the door handles and mirror painted white
2. Tyres and Alloy upgrade.

Never got down to doing it though.

Cut to now, and am beginning to drive and appreciate the Polo a bit more now. Even though I love driving the Bimmer, I don't want to be putting too many kms on it; cos service and maintenance costs are high and I don't want to reduce the resale value of the car much. The problem was that the stock Polo looked a lil dreary with it's puny tyres and black handles, and I didn't like the base variant image.

Last week my wife met with a small accident that necessitated the change of the front bumper, so I took the chance when the car was in the workshop and got the door handles and mirrors painted. This just whet my appetite and I have been looking for a decent pair of alloy wheels for the car. Like many have pointed out on this thread, it is difficult to get Alloys for the car, but finally managed to find a pair that I liked. I wanted a size upgrade so got a 15inch Alloy wheel, with a VW cap. (The Alloys are Chinese and only have the VW Symbol, so they do tend to look Company OE). Changed up the tyres to 195/60 R15s Yokohoma ES100. Ride Quality and Handling has seen an immediate change.

Here are some pics

I still haven't upgraded the tyres as they are good to go a few thousand km's. Will post a picture once I upgrade them. Here is a picture of my current wheels.
