Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

Harit, with due respect, I do not think Doc needed to " SELL" his entry to the Cartier judges. He was a dignified participant, not a salesman. They should have had the sense to make sufficient inquiries about this lovely delage. But , thats Cartier. The car looks good, will surely make us proud. It would be interesting to know from our participants, the comments, tips etc they recieved for further improvement. Look forward to their impressions on their return.

Well, by saying "sell", I mean that Doc has to showcase his car backed with a good presentation. The Delage would not have won Best of Show or something like that where judges examine and decide. It was the contender for the resurrection. And that is something which you have to inform and show the judges, they cannot just make out from what level a car was resurrected. "Sell" is just a term, I could have used "Present" or "Showcase".
Really, in any event which I know about, judges do not make enquiries about an entry. When they come to your car, you convey to them the history with proof in terms of documentation, photos etc.
When participating in any event and competing for a prize, all of us have to sell/present/showcase our entries properly
Believe me, thats the way it is

Cheers harit

Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

Last evening KVCCC had a small function in honour of Dr. Ravi Prakash and his family who are going to participate PB in the competition segment. Doc, as he is fondly called would be the first Resident Indian to formally participate in the competition.

Here are pictures taken on my mobile.

The Kannadiga style of honouring with silk shawls and garlands

Doc explaining that there were 7000+ entries are only 180 were chosen. He feels honoured to be participant from India. He thanked KVCCC for the support

Very Memorable evening. I am sure we will have a bigger BASH on his return. Commendable and proud moment for all of us associated with KVCCC.

An Indian origin Maharaja car taking part, the 1930 Mercedes-Benz 38/250SS.
Once owned by the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, it went to Australia. Aparently ownership changed again.

Hmm - interesting choice of colours! Wonder if she will appear unchanged for the event.

Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

I can say this one very very interesting combination. I would say this is nice to know she is all dolled up drivern for the Mille Miglia and then coming unlike a show peice from some standing spot.

Very intresting combo

Cheers

What I remember is that he took a Contessa and drove around the world, whatever that means. I wonder if he needed a Carnet for the Contessa

Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

In the latest Auto India there is a write-up on Pebble Beach and the posters. Are these collectable? They look very nice, and some renown names have put in their designs.
When one reads the article one can see the disappointment that some cars are not going. Fortunately PB has invited these entries for the next year. Just imagine, 50% of the entries are not going.
And this time a number of visitors from India are likely to visit PB for this event. Hopefully some of them are on t-bhp and will post pictures.

I am disappointed that there are no comments on the B+W picture posted before, does no one recognize that car?

Cheers harit

Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

KVCC seems to have felicitated the Doc family, that is the spirit. Maybe HMCI and VCCCI would have done the same, had their members [ invited to participate] sent the two cars selected. I am told, no confirmations as yet, that the PB guys are really going all out to showcase Indian origin cars and Indians, including asking some non participating Indian car owners to join them on a podium. If true, I wonder why? Maybe to attract more cars from India in the future? Or plans for a similar event here?

The car on the left is a Fiat Ballila, both photographed lying together in Mumbai.

Indeed, KVCC did fescilitate Doc and his family, refer to pictures above.

Who are these non-participating members? I only hope that they will be true representatives of the Vintage car movement of India and promote the entire Indian movement suitably and accordingly. Those going there for self promotion should clearly spell that out.

I can sense good things happening in future.

We seem to have forgotton about this entry, also deserves acholades.

Cheers harit
