Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

Thanks KPS for the link. The pictures are nice, the Indian Line up of a lady[ unknown to me] , Manvinder, Doc, Jadeja, Arvindsinghji, and last, Nitin, being interviewed by an official. Would be interesting to hear what they were saying. The three car owners out of this line up have their conversation up on you tube. I cannot however find Manvinder and Nitin"s comments with the interviewer. Hopefully someone will post, and we will get to hear what our representatives were saying about India and our cars. I do not know who won what, BUT a little bird did tweet that the Mewar 20 hp would be rewarded.

Here's a scan of a pic of Alwar 2 when in India. Comparing with the Pebble Beach photo above, She seems to have lost the fender mascots, flag rods, and the gun cases to time.

Here are some pics of Rajkot No 1.
Not sure if they were both taken in India, though. There are minor differences between the two pics (chrome wheel trims, different number plate), suggesting that the pics were taken at different points in her lifetime. Both these pics feature the car in it's original duo-tone colour scheme, unlike the Pebble beach pic above, so they seem to be early pics.

I don't think this is the same car. You are wrong. The Alwar car number 2 is still here .

This is much shorter .

Also I think you ate two more doors of the Alwar car and made it a rumble seat from a touring Sedan

Cheers

Nice to see at least the gun case intact on Alwar 2.

Wow - What a Day! Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

Just got home from one of the most amazing days in my life - on the fairway at Pebble Beach, among automotive treasures I did not think I would ever see!

Our own Karlos ably represented TBHP. By the time of the "Ramp Drive" he was loaded down with Posters, Brochures and a whole lot of I do not know what! Gautam Sen made his presence too.

I am still bleary eyed from the red eye back from San Francisco - will upload pictures in a day or two.

Ratan Tata and Jay Leno both "jumped the ropes" to see the Maharaja cars up close and personal.

More soon.......

p.s.: The lady in the group picture referred to by Bulldogji and KPS is the Maharani / Yuvarani of Rajkot

I think some folk who posted are either tired, or having a good time. Its 22.30PM here and I am alert, surprised to read the posts on the Alwar Hispano.

The Hispano Kellner is NOT Alwar 2. That is today still in the Pranlal collection, in green. And it retains its gun case. This Kellner is a coupe now in an ugly mauve colour, belonged once upon a time to Protab Roy in Delhi and shared a garage with Bulldogji's 500 K and the EX Rolls. Therefore, since EX and the Hispano were together in PB, they had a sort of reunion, spoilt by the absence of the 500K (Bulldogji, Grrrrrrrr).

Also, please remember that the Rajkot Rolls is a rebuilt car after being burnt down, so there are bound to be differences.

I wonder when did the Rajkot Hispano leave India. She is one of two 12 cylinder Hispano's which India had. Both are now out of the country.

I didn't hear any opinions so far, but as far as Maharaja cars go, there could have been a better and larger selection of exciting cars. Perhaps PB have to get involved in restoration and transport like Cartier does if they ever have a Maharaja class again. And, I am referring to the Maharaja cars lying around the world, not just India. But PB may not change their policy, and what applies to all will also apply to Maharaja vehicles.

I have not seen those interview clips so far, maybe tomorrow. What surprises is that only some interviews were posted, apparently all were interviewed going by the pictures seen on the PB site. Maybe someone can put up the missing ones, I am sure they will be interesting.

A fellow t-bhpian suggested I google to come up with something interesting, and I came up with this note pasted below. Its politically correct, but not quite factual, gives loads of opportunities to comment from which I will refrain at the moment.

Info on our Deshi collectors/authorities/officials/hitch hikers present at Pebble Beach, in the same order as spotted on the internet:

His Highness Rana Manvendra Singh Barwani
In 1979, His Highness opened the first professional restoration shop in India. Curator of the new Cartier Concours in India, he coauthored the book “The Automobiles of the Maharajas” and is an expert on Maharaja cars.

Maharaj Saheb Arvind Singh Mewar,
The Maharana of Udaipur (with 1924 Rolls-Royce 20 HP Barker Tourer): From a royal family that has kept and cared for its cars over the years, and has even opened a museum for the public to enjoy them.

The Crown Prince Mandhatasinh of Rajkot
(1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II “Star of India” Thrupp & Maberly All Weather), who repurchased the Star of India for his family.

Dr. Ravi Prakash
(With 1930 Delage D8 Figoni Cabriolet), who is among the new and growing generation of collectors in India and you are participating with not one but two cars in this your first Concours.

Nitin Dossa
Heads many very notable automobile organizations in India, including the Federation of Indian Automobile Associations, the Western India Automobile Association, and the Vintage and Classic Car Clubs in India.

Cheers harit

Re: Indians and their Cars at Pebble Beach (PB)

Who won what prize in the Maharaja class?
Where can one see Manvinder's and Nitin's interviews?

Will comment on the interviews after I have seen all of them.

The Swan car had brushes to clean the wheels of elephant produce, thats a new one. Couls they not have used the Swan car for Tiger hunting, the Swans calls luring the Tiger to get shot. The brushes sure would have been used for cleaning, but more likely bullsxxxx. Maharaja cars and fables.

I am putting up a few old pictures of Rolls, some of them were present at PB. These pictures were taken most likely in Indore, guess who exported them.

And Pranlal's Hispano for comparison.
