There were many OEM as well as aftermarket period accessories in cars of the classic and vintage era. There were specialised brands catering to certain Marques also. Example- Dehne, Perohaus, Huma used to manufacture accessories for Mercedes and Volkswagen.

The common accessories in those era was

2.Spotlights
3.Suction fans
4.Gravel guards
5.Foglights
6.Backuplights
7.Different types of gauges like - Tachometer, Voltmeter, Amperemeter, Oilpressure

Our own Ambassador, fiats and herald had its share of period accessories
Let the experts and afficionados contribute

Re: Period Accessories in Vintage and Classic Cars

Neat thread.

More common accessories especially for the Indian market included sun visors, fender mounted mirrors, shikaar lights

...and of course badges!

A now unseen item are sun blinds

And here is my 62 Amby with accessory side trims (I love them!), chain mud flaps (I could live without them) and ornate luggage carrier

But for me the ultimate accessorised car I've seen locally has to be the Studebaker Station Wagon in Bombay. Kasli, please do the honours.

Be careful with those badges, they are
1) Valuable
2) Impede the flow of air, could affect cooling.

If I remember correctly, side trims were offered by the company in the 1960's, many many Ambys had this design of trims on them.

Re: Period Accessories in Vintage and Classic Cars

The trunk in the rear of the car is another wonderful accessory. Here is are pictures of two different types of trunks

First is a customized trunk built specifically for the car. This is the Ex-Kolhapur Sunbeam now in the Manjusha Museum. The trunk is in leather and is very luxurious with partitions.

The second set is of a mass produced period trunk as seen in my Plymouth

Another accessory discussed the Shikaar lights. The Sunbeam sports the Shikaar light and is easily accessible by the driver

Another important accessory was the Calormeter or temperature gauge, like this one on my Morris , this calormeter known as the " Baby" model was manufactured by Wilmot breeden.

Vent shade

This type of Vent trims were a popular accessory of the seventies
Really simple to fit, just wind the window down, slide the trim up to the top.Gives extra ventilation when driving but also means your car is secure when parked up whilst still having the ventilation.Really helped in humid conditions.
There was a similar black plastic accessory fitted to Padminis and ambassadors in the seventies.Hope Rony and Haritji may remember it .Ther was a few round holes whih a slat in the centre.Local'taxi drivers used to refer to it as ''air cooler'' in those days because something to that effect was inscribed on it

I have used these on my Dads Fiats in the 70's. As far as I can remember, they were made by a company called 'TRANSFLOW'.
