Only pre 1950 cars i.e till 1949 are allowed to be imported, you can import a post 1950 car only on TR (Transfer of residence) which has its own rules.

For TR also the car should have been in your ownership abroad for atleast 1 year.

While responding to my RTI queries, the CPIO and Dy Commissioner of Customs, Mulund , Mumbai 400 081, has provided the following replies.
A careful study of the pages 2 and 3 will reveal some hitherto unknown facts.

The RTI questionniare was sent to the CPIO, Union Ministry of Commerce, New Delhi. The Commerce Ministry has forwarded my letter to all the Custom offices all over India. I have been hearing from all the Chief Commissioner/ Commissioner/ Dy Commissioner of Customs offices in India and have received some sixty replies so far.

But this one from the Dy Commissioner, Mulund, Mumbai is quite comprehensive and useful and hence I decided to post it.

So can one export a used motor car made after 1.1.50 from India to any foreign country depending on importing country’s laws?
Request members please she some authenticate info on this ? Thanks.
