Dear all - I saw MAR 90 in Coimbatore during my recent visit there. It is not for sale at all. A very nice gentleman whom i talked to told me that it was sent to England in 1984 and was modified there at a cost of Rs.12 lakhs at that time. From whatever I could see in it, the suspension has been completely changed, the rear has disc brakes, the body has been strengthened, the brake and clutch pedals were fabricated out of aluminium and they were of the suspended type. I believe they are now putting a "street" engine in it.

There was also a "dukkar" lying covered but totally rusted. I was told that it belonged to an Australian gentleman. He gave it for a full restoration but he left the country 15 years back and has not returned to collect it, so it is lying there ever since. The grille, taillights and wheel rims were original. There was nothing else left.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Ajay, it is "POHANKA" and not Pohanma and it is the name of a car dealer in Washington DC. I had it on my ex-1221cc Left Hand Drive Fiat boot as well.
However, the car you have posted looks really CHIC.

Amazing how they keep popping up.. Saw this lovely and very restorable Select in a bylane off Shivaji Park, Dadar. It was quite dark, but I intend going again for better pics, and to investigate a bit.

Nice car! Incidentally, I had a select painted in the very shade but with the roof white!
It was inspired from yet another select in Bombay in that colour combo. Maybe that car was in fact inspired from this car for all you know?

You're not the only one who feels so!
ajay, any more views of this car?? If it would happen to be for sale, I may take the plunge and become a fiat owner again!
A car like this would be real practical!

I saw this red Superselect opposite Jai Hind College. Wasn't in the best of condition but she looked different in red.

Ajay, that is a rare sight, quite uncommon these days. Do share some more pictures.

If I may take a guess that car is MHP 121, spotted in Pune by moralfibre once. I may be wrong.

EDIT - There was also an AP regd car in the same colour in Pune some years back, had many nice accessory fittings and whitewalls. Wonder where it went.

Yep how wierd is that Pohanka is not even a Fiat Dealer or was one ever. I guess its just a case of finding + adding something unusual to your car.

Are you positive that Pohanka never sold Fiat cars? Delights were (somewhat) popular in the States back in the day. Rony's car MRY 9501 did originally come from Washington, and Pohanka has been in Washington since 1919! Currently serving 15 brands.

Pohanka | New and Used Car Dealers Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC | Used Cars Washington DC | Used Cars Fredericksburg | Used Cars Chantilly Leesburg Salisbury Marlow Heights

That said, I suppose there is a possibility that the badge was added later as an embellishment, perhaps Rony can confirm.

Yes, I do confirm that my ex- Fiat car MRY 9501 was "MADE IN ITALY" for "AMERICA". The same car was bought by Admiral Jal Cursetji (1st owner) in Washington in 1964 and shipped down to India in 1965 on TR.
And, the "POHANKA" badge on the boot has been on it, eversince.
