Its been a long time since we've met at DPC and hogged at TANGY TOMATO, so looks like we should be spending the Sunday in that area.
If the rain Gods permit then I want to fire up my PRESIDENT and bring her out of hibernation since she has overslept this time.

Great idea. I am in, and if its a dry day (no puns intended), shall get 4979 to give your President some company while we hog at Tangys.

Yeah hopfully in Dec.

The movie was good TP, Good to see the Fiats however they messed up in a few scenes where they used non-vintage cars of the era.

Requiem

Mumbai gets ready to do a final adios to her beloved symbol - the Fiat Taxi.

My heart goes out to the hundreds of Taxis with nice, original, period fittings - To those lovely whitewalled wonders, who now look "all dressed-up with nowhere to go" (except probably the scrapyard !)
My heart goes out to these Fiats, who soldier on bravely, their very souls ravaged by commercial compulsions.

For a few days, I'll post pictures of cabs with interesting / nice looking stuff on them. Please do follow up with any interesting pictures you see !
(pictures have been taken with permission)

I'll start with a "Delight"ful relic of a bygone era !

I have more detailed pics of this car. It seems to have been ruined though.. This had everything from original wheels and Hubcaps to original steering wheel with the FIAT horn button and white wall tires. Will have to dig into my collection to find them though

Ravi bhai this means that finally the decision to decommission all the fiats is conveyed by the Maharashtra Govt. This means the end of our last hope to get fiat parts from Mumbai.. sad

these days at CST Road, Kurla, u can find about 20-30 taxi's daily being parted out. They have a long slot opened on the right front fender i think they do so to take out the cng kit or something.. all taxi's which are being parted out have such slots. sad to see them go

Sigh.. Will we ever see a gathering like this, ever again ?
A few more years, and this picture will be in the "nostalgic pictures" thread.

In a phased manner, of course.
But they'll all be eventually gone :(
I wish they restore a few for posterity, and keep them on the roads as Mumbai's symbols - don't we have the London Taxi, or NY's Checker Cab ? Why not our own 'Kaali-Peeli" ?
News is that they are also planning to change the black and yellow clour scheme to something 'new' and 'fresh'. Like brown and cream.
