Yes it came out of the box exactly like this - probably in 1948.

Its the famous Royal Enfield 125 cc AKA "The Flying Flea" It started production during 2nd World War as bike for the British Army Red Berets Parachute Regiment

The flying flea wasn't made to look beautiful. It was built for a different purpose. I do like its little expansion chamber though. Cute!

Looking at the distinctive grab rail and side panel, seems to me that it is a rebadged Sooraj 325 Diesel. Incidentally, both the bikes used the same Lombardini Greaves diesel power-plant with a miserly 6 bhp.

Classic BMW Motorcycle (R25 I think) from Trichur. This is one of the three motorcycles imported by Christian priests. Two survives in Trichur and one went to Tamil Nadu.

sorry for the very late reply. after searching a lot was able to find the picture in one of
my old photo albums. pic was taken using a film camera in 1999 at a vintage rally in chennai. The bike has a AP regn.
