And this is the first 10 days expense, God knows whats in store in the next 10 days, I am without a shadow of doubt beginning to regret this decision not entirely because of the expenses but also because I feel she is not a reliable vehicle, if I take a trip she has all the abilities to strand me in the middle of the highway which is really not what I needed from a car at this point.

She may as well be miss universe, but a bedridden miss universe isn't exactly an ideal situation for all intents and purposes ; will share some photos and videos soon along with further updates (If any) .
Hey, I hate to recieve retrospective suggestions myself, but please do a thorough market study next time you buy a used car! Like someone else mentioned, this model sells for at 80-90k, at max 1L because of the age and validity factor. Essentially if you had budgeted 1L for the car and 1L for doing it up you would have been sorted. But what's done is done, you've overshot by only 50K . Do get the AT transmission fluid changed, preferably from Honda even though Heera is competent enough. It's extremely important for transmission longetivity. For other things, FNGs would be the best bet. This is one of the coolest cars ever, the braking + design + sporty seating + handling is unbeatable. Let this be a cheap Civic inspiration thread, like we have cheap hatchback threads.

Also you can ask Heera to refer you to specialists for power window/ steering/etc. I've heard you can find some in Palika Bhawan etc. as well.

Well people did mention that price in a few posts, but i never saw any examples across platforms, Olx, quickr, team Bhp classifieds, as well as cars 24 and even some direct sellers. The minimum price quoted was for a 2006 model was 1.20L, while I may have overshot by about 10-15K, thats about it given the car has no body work. Yes the validity is a problem but I intend to move it to Punjab eventually so the car made sense.

Yes heera makes sense , he seems like a competent mechanic.

Buying a used car from a random dealer always has its perils. I have a Honda City ZX with a Jan 2006 registration but still in pretty good condition & always serviced by Honda, right till the present. But its got only 6 months of lifespan left, so I just logged on to OLX just to check what price should I consider selling it for. I was shocked to see most of the 13-15 years Honda City ZX cars listed were mentioning a mileage of 60-100K on the odo. I normally thought my car which is in excellent running condition would have a value of around 50-60 K or so, but these cars have an asking price of 1.25 - 2.00 Lacs !!

What a farce this is !! My single owner (mostly driven by my wife) 14.5 years old City has clocked 1.9L kms. so how can all these cars have clocked such low mileage ?

My 2009 Honda Civic has also clocked 1.12L Kms. The Honda Civics from 2006-07 on OlX are again all with such questionably low mileage and listed at such ridiculously high prices. So I am not really sure if OLX is the right platform for looking at used cars. Always better to buy from a known person or a known dealer, at least you are assured of its maintenance.

Keep an eye on the power steering fluid. The Civic has a power steering fluid leakage issue from the rack and the PS pump. Ideally only the seals are replaced rather than the units unless they have gone really bad. I am surprised your mechanic replaced the pump wherein I believe only seals need to be replaced in which case it should have cost just 3 to 5k. 8k a peice for the pump would mean only a chinese pump was probably used, kindly confirm this with the mechanic if needed. Do not worry these do last, a year or two before they need attention. This and the engine mount which goes bad are the signature problems of the Civic, other maintenance would be like other cars with respect to wear and tear. Refer to this thread for any problems before approaching any mechanic for any issue. Also if the cost of repair is on the higher side always get a second opinion.

Good Luck with the car.

Re: Does this Honda Civic seller sound fishy?

Congratulations on your new car Armaan!

I was in a similar predicament many years ago when I let my heart make the call and bought a decade old Lancer. It was almost exactly the same situation as yours.

Initially I was disheartened that the car I picked up was giving me so much trouble. But then I went on to systematically replace ALL worn parts, suspension, clutch, hoses, filters, changed all fluids, new tyres, wheels, interior and paint. And a bomb of a music system! All the parts were done at the ASC, paint and interior at competent FNGs. Yes, it did cost me around 50% of what I bought the car for. But trust me, she was incredible to drive after that. No other car made me happy like the way that Lancer did. And because it was in excellent condition, I got every bit of the money I spent, back. Essentially drove it for free!

Here's a pic of what she looked like once I was done. Drove as good as she looked:

I would strongly recommend you do the same, especially because you have long term plans. Fix her up and have a ton of fun! Piecemeal efforts will only end up causing unexpected failures and more heartache.

Re: Does this Honda Civic seller sound fishy?

Has Honda changed from 3/6 month service to annual? We have sold our City and have three - Brio AT, Civic AT and Amaze MT. Since I have retired our need is less. Our son drives the Civic, d-i-l the Amaze and we (my wife and I) the Brio.

We may need to change one or two next year.

My old Amaze used to have a 1 year / 10k km interval when I bought it in 2014. A couple of years later Honda changed the oil specification to 0w20 from 5w40 and changed the service interval to 6 months. I would suggest just pouring 5w40 A3/B4 (eg Shell Helix Ultra) for older Hondas and servicing them at 1 year / 10k km instead of 6 monthly intervals.

Yes it was indeed a Chinese one, and about 18-24 months life is what the mechanic mentioned as well.

Now more recently, I am facing this weird glitch where in when I turn the steering wheel for a sharp U turn, I hear some wires in the steering making a very uncomfortable noise, and today that happened again and the horn just stopped working in the middle of the road, not to mention this happened for the 2nd time in 10 days.

I am currently in Jaipur and intend to leave early tomorrow morning back to Gurgaon to drop it at the FNG again and find a permanent solution to this scary problem.

Fingers crossed for less traffic on the highway tomorrow.

Re: Does this Honda Civic seller sound fishy?

First of all Civic will be a great choice for a cheap fun to drive car and you will find some at throw away prices. But 80K is a little too fishy. I had a civic which my friend totalled and reduced it to almost a scarp piece of metal (Honda gave me an estimate of Rs. 10.75 lakhs to fix the car). Even after that I could manage to sell my totalled car for Rs. 1 Lakh to a salvage car buyer. So you can do the maths, most likely the car you are looking at is a flood vehicle or a stolen one (seems like the later). But if I could sell my salvage Civic of 1 Lakh (link to images and my post on the same below), I am not sure why would anyone sell a car which can drive for 80k.
Also give it a read as I have spoken about general issues that a 8th Generation Honda Civic has, its not going to be cheap to maintain and the fuel economy is 8kmpl. So unless you’re extremely keen on owning a Civic, don’t buy this.

Re: Does this Honda Civic seller sound fishy?

The red civic is still available i guess. The registration number is quite visible in the last pic of the whatsapp chat, so looked it up and it still says 'third owner'.
