Re: Safe car for office staff : Intercity travel with 100 kg cargo?

What kind of travel distance is being looked at? You've mentioned between cities - that could be anywhere from 50 km to 500 km. Also how much importance is being given to staff comfort. Will there be dedicated driver, overnight trips, bad road conditions, rural environment etc. All of these things will result in different vehicles which would fit your need. For eg, 3 people staff to travel 50-100 kms roundtrip, even an Alto would suffice.

Safety is of the highest/first priority as they might have to frequently travel through unsafe routes. Good mileage is preferred. The budget we had in mind is 5-10L

Any suggestions are appreciated
Some points to consider IMHO.

Firstly, 100 kgs of what? Because 100kgs of cotton may not fit in a Bolero, whereas 100 kgs of iron will fit in a Nano. So a very important question. How much volume does your 100 kg samples occupy? Some members have suggested hatch backs like the Nexon. Will your 100 kg samples fit in a hatchback?

Secondly, 100 kgs in the boot of a sedan may not be a good idea. It will change the way the car handles - negatively. Ideally, heavy loads (compared to the weight of the vehicle) should be within the wheelbase of the vehicle. 100 kgs in a Bolero is different from 100 kgs in the boot of a light sedan.

Thirdly, if you are carrying something heavy, especially with a high density, you should have provisions in the vehicle to secure it adequately so that it does not become a missile in case of an unfortunate accident.

Toyota Etios - D, if you are travelling more on city roads and highways !! Great dependability, awesome space inside for seating easy 5, great Boot space as well - Good Ergonomics

Bolero - If there is need to travel upstate/ rural area's. Ergonomic is bit of challenge. But no other vehicle can travel into Rural area as a BOLERO !!

Which is where a pickup truck body excels, plenty of hardpoints to secure ropes and a pickup cover or at least a tarpaulin in case of rain.

You need a car with multi link or leaf spring suspension type. Single beam suspension cars are not suitable for abuse. If the beam got a bend its an irreversible damage. Most likely mahindra bolero or tuv 300 could be an option.

You may consider a pre used Toyota Innova. They are very reliable and can easily take a good load which is thrown at them.
