Re: VFM, safe car with good GC for 10-lakhs OTR

10 lakhs is actually not that much money for all that you want. Since you are already a used car expert, this is the time to use that card and buy something pre-worshipped .

On the other hand, if absolutely keen on new, then options like the Nexon & Figo / Freestyle are good. You must also strongly consider the Polo / Rapid 1.0 TSIs which will have you grinning like crazy & are well-rated on safety too. The XUV300 is fast & safe and has good discounts.

But seriously, 10 lakhs can get you a far superior pre-owned car than a new one.

Re: VFM, safe car with good GC for 10-lakhs OTR

Why has everyone here forgotten the existence of XUV300?

7 airbags,
safer than the nexon
Better petrol engine than the nexon

(ONLY) 180 mm GC, though.

The OP did say that the budget is capped at 10 OTR. I don't think he has updated it yet but with his requirements (if they are all mandatory) then I guess he will be forced to look at the pre-owned route.

These are all available in only the higher variants of the xuv 300 which cost way above the 10 lakh budget specified by the OP.

It is too stiff on the suspension. And the boot limits its use as a city car where the 120 odd horses are not needed.

The only 2 options I see here are the XUV3OO and the Tata Nexon. Both have 5* safety ratings with the XUV giving 7 airbags on the W8(O) variant. However, if it’s a VFM product you want, go for the Nexon or else you could continue looking at options in the pre-owned market.

Maybe off topic but the Nissan Magnite is launching soon. I'd suggest holding off till then incase it turns out to be a better proposition than the Nexon. It has dual airbags (not 6) but I think the top variant should tick your other boxes.

I hope you have answers to this:
1. Is a car must for 4000-5000 km a year? Can't rentals/Ola/Uber satisfy your needs?
2. If the answer to (1) is yes, why not a used car again? (Yaris, City, Ecosport, Creta etc)

To answer your question from the post - I can think of a few cars that might satisfy most of your requirements:
1. Grand i10 Nios 1.0 (Missing: 6 airbags and GC)
2. Elite i20 1.0 (Missing: Price, lower GC)
3. Ecosport (Missing: Price)
4. Aspire/Figo (Missing: Power, GC)

The Ecosport with 6 airbags will be well over your budget, in the INR 12-13 lakh rupee range in Mumbai (going by the prices in Bangalore, which are even higher!). Ford Freestyle is probably your best bet, with most of the essential features from your list covered. You would even opt for the diesel engine which would offer better performance than the petrol. Ground clearance wise, it should be able to tackle most but the most vicious of bad roads and craters.

Also, I think the 5 star rating may be with the six airbag version, No?

Nexon is on my list, definitely!
I believe NCAP tests the lowest model as standard procedure?
Nevertheless in view of stable Outer Shell and frame you could overlook only 2 airbags in XZ Variant.

You could also check out Ecosport T+ but it will be around 2 Lakhs over your budget

But if you find the XUV 300 stiff, then you'll never ever want to get into an EcoSport. IMO stiff suspensions are better as they avoid motion sickness due to lack of floaty feel and keep the vehicle much stable and sharper at high speeds.

Re: VFM, safe car with good GC for 10-lakhs OTR

I think the new Hyundai i20 which is to launch next week may be a good option here as the higher version will come with 6 Airbags and other safety features originally requested.
However Ground clearance will not meet the req and Price is yet unknown.

XUV300 and Nexon as others suggested are also good options.
If it were not for the 6 Airbags other options could have been there.

Re: VFM, safe car with good GC for 10-lakhs OTR

NCAP tests base variant cars so Nexon and XUV300 should definitely be on your list considering they have 2 airbags standard. EcoSport is also an excellent product and has solid build quality but crash testing has not been done. Freestyle is also nice with everything you want except Android Auto and the rear seat is a bit tight.

If you want a bigger car then look out for a decent Fortuner 4X2 Automatic not older than 5 years. There are plenty of options out in the used car market.

Re: VFM, safe car with good GC for 10-lakhs OTR

I would recommend getting a used VW Jetta. You can easily get used variants between 2 to 6 lakhs. If you go with a 2014 to 2016 variant, you can pick up a Highline for around 5 to 6 lakhs. It will have 6 airbags, ESC, ABS etc and is very well built. It would also provide you with well furnished leather interiors and good driving experience. Yes, the GC is a little low but you can make it work. Since you are driving only 500 kms per month, there is no need to pay much more for a new car. In fact, you can even pickup a 2012 or 2103 Jetta for as low as 2 to 3 lakhs. You can use it for a few years and sell it off for around 1.5 lakhs and you would have lost practically nothing while driving a safe and fun car.

Buy a 2017/18 Tata Hexa Xta. You will get a good used example for around 10 lakhs with all the features you desire. Since most would be driven below 40000 km, you may get in extended warranty thrown in.
