2017 KTM RC 390 and RC 200 launched in India

KTM has launched the updated 2017 RC range of bikes in India. Both, the RC 390 and the RC 200 have been given some cosmetic updates, while the former has received some mechanical tweaks as well. Deliveries of the new RC series bikes will commence across the country within a week.

The 2017 KTM RC 390 gets a new side-mounted upswept exhaust that replaces the older model's underbelly unit. Moreover, it comes with a new ride-by-wire throttle. Both these additions have made the 2017 RC 390 compliant with BSIV norms. The clutch and brake levers can now be adjusted for different hand sizes and glove thickness. Additionally, the bike now gets 320 mm disc brake at the front, replacing the 300 mm unit found on the earlier RC. It also retains the slipper clutch assembly.

The updated RC 390 further comes with wider wing mirrors. Customers of the older RC had often complained about the low visibility from its RVMs, which has now been addressed on the 2017 model. The new RC 390 also gets UV resistant paint on the trellis frame and new body graphics.

Powering the 2017 RC 390 will be the same 373 cc engine as the outgoing model. It is rated at 43 BHP and 36 Nm. The 1 Nm bump in the torque output is a result of the new exhaust setup and ride-by-wire system. The new RC 390 is priced at Rs. 2,25,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is thus costlier than the previous model by around Rs. 11,000.

Meanwhile, the 2017 RC 200 gets a new livery and a white fuel tank, while retaining all mechanical specifications of the previous model. It draws power from a BSIV compliant 199 cc engine that churns out 25 BHP and 19.2 Nm of torque. The 2017 RC 200 has been priced at Rs. 1,71,340 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

KTM mentioned that it currently has 325 showrooms across the country. The company is planning to expand this number to 450 by the end of next FY. The next launch from the Austrian automaker will be the 2017 KTM Duke 200 & 390. Moreover, KTM has confirmed that it will finally be bringing the Adventure series of bikes to India, including the Adventure 390.
