2018 Volvo XC40 revealed before launch

Volvo Hungary has accidentally released details of the upcoming XC40 SUV. Details reveal that the production model resembles closely to the Volvo 40 Concept.

The XC40 SUV is based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) which is shared with their Chinese owners Geely. Visually, the only noticeable changes on the outside are the traditional door handles compared to the hidden door handles on the concept. It also retains the conventional door mirrors and loses out the strip of light found on the lower bumper.

Interiors of the car are similar to the current XC60 and it gets the larger touchscreen from the XC90. Some changes include relocation of the speakers from the door to enable storage compartment big enough for a laptop. Other convenience features include wireless charging, adaptive cruise control and smartphone integration that will load the route directly from the user's phone before entering the car.

The engine specifications have not been listed, however Volvo has revealed that the car will get the new 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and the 4-cylinder Drive-E engine on the higher variants. A hybrid variant powered by a combination of the new engine and an electric motor is expected to be available later.

An Indian launch in expected in 2018/2019. It will compete with cars like the BMW X2 and Audi Q2.
