2019 Toyota Corolla sedan spotted testing

An early prototype model of the next-gen Toyota Corolla sedan has been clicked during one of its test runs. The updated Corolla is expected to be unveiled in 2018, and will likely go on sale in 2019.

The current-gen Corolla was globally introduced in 2013, and was given a mid-life facelift this year. Since the Corolla is Toyota's most popular nameplate in the global market, the company is keen to keep the model fresh, and is thus planning to introduce an all-new iteration in the next couple of years.

The new-gen Corolla is expected to be built on the NGA-C platform, which is a direct derivative of Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA). It will thus share its underpinnings with the new Prius hybrid and the C-HR crossover.

The model spotted testing has been disguised under heavy camouflage. However, some of the major design characteristics revealed include the strange placement of the ORVMs, which stick out from the body line and are also mounted a bit higher than their usual placement. The front fascia clearly reminds of the fourth-gen Prius. Since the car is still in its early prototyping stages, it adorns makeshift circular headlamps. The production model will feature more modern assemblies. The side profile gets a larger window area, and a prominent shoulder line, while the rear features a different trunk lid design.

Like the current line-up, the new-gen Corolla will also be available in hatchback and sedan architectures.
