2024 Land Rover Evoque & Discovery Sport to debut EV platform

The next-generation Evoque & Discovery Sport SUVs will debut the Land Rover's new EV-focussed EMA platform.

Land Rover is reportedly working on completely revamping the next-generation Evoque and Discovery Sport SUVs. According to a media report, the next-generation iterations of both SUVs are expected to debut Land Rover's all-new EV-focussed platform.

The new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform will debut on both SUVs, starting with the Range Rover Evoque in 2024. This will be quickly followed by the third-generation Discovery Sport as well.

Land Rover is expected to increase the starting prices of the new-gen Evoque and Discovery Sport SUVs. This will be to compensate for the additional development and construction costs of the new electrified platform. Reports suggest that Land Rover could offer both SUVs with a starting price of around GBP 40,000 (equivalent to Rs 41.45 lakh).

The next-generation Evoque and Discovery Sport models are expected to be manufactured at Land Rover's Halewood plant in the UK. The company is said to be working on installing a new production line for its EMA platform-based models.

The new EMA platform is said to be capable of housing either a large floor-mounted battery pack or a small hybrid-sized battery. Both versions, however, will come with an IC engine that will act as a range-extender unit.

The platform is also expected to feature dual electric motors (one at each axle), eliminating mechanical transmission, driveshafts, differentials and propshafts; all of which will aid in improving the SUV's off-road performance.
