All-new Volkswagen ID.BUZZ electric MPV unveiled

Volkswagen has announced that the ID.Buzz will go on sale in Europe by end-2022.

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the all-electric ID.Buzz MPV. The MPV is the latest addition to the brand's all-electric ID range. The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is also said to be the modern-day, electric version of the iconic VW Bus.

Volkswagen has announced that the ID.Buzz will go on sale in Europe by end-2022. It will be offered in two variants - ID.Buzz for the passenger segment and ID.Buzz Cargo for the commercial vehicle segment. The MPV will be underpinned by Volkswagen Group's Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform. It measures 4,712 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,938 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,988 mm.

Initially, the ID.Buzz will be offered in a five-seater standard-wheelbase configuration. A 7-seater, long-wheelbase variant will debut in 2023. All variants will come with conventionally-hinged doors at the front, while the rear doors will be sliding units. Other features include IQ light with adaptive dimming, full-width LED tail-lights and 19-inch alloys wheels (optional 20-inch).

On the inside, the ID.Buzz features a cabin with a minimalistic theme. It features a 5.3-inch digital instrument display, a 10-inch infotainment system with connected tech and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Volkswagen has used recycled synthetic material in the cabin. Volkswagen has also provided plenty of storage spaces in the cabin, including a 'Buzz Box' between the front two seats.

The current variants of the ID.Buzz come with a single-motor, rear-wheel drive setup. Volkswagen, however, did confirm that more powerful dual-motor and four-wheel drive setups will be introduced to the line-up in 2023. There is also an ID.Buzz California camper van scheduled to arrive in 2024. The company is yet to announce the official specifications of the MPV, including the battery range on a single charge. However, Volkswagen has hinted at a WLTP range of around 400 km.
