Aston Martin and Mercedes to provide safety cars for F1 2021

Aston Martin will provide the Vantage as the Safety Car and the DBX SUV as the Medical Car. Mercedes will continue to offer the AMG GT R and C 63 S Estate as the Safety and Medical Cars respectively.

The 2021 season of the Formula 1 world championship will have Safety and Medical cars from two different manufacturers - Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin.

Aston Martin will provide the Vantage as the Safety Car and the DBX SUV as the Medical Car. Both are finished in Aston Martin racing green paint scheme. The Vantage is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine with 528 BHP and 685 Nm on tap. The car has a claimed 0-97 km/h time of 3.5 seconds. The car has been modified to meet the F1 regulations to ensure that the F1 cars it leads can maintain sufficient speed and tyre temperatures. The DBX is powered by the same engine, but produces 542 BHP and 700 Nm. The car is claimed to be able to a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds. The DBX is equipped with a defibrillator, fire extinguishers and a burn kit to respond to medical emergencies.

Mercedes will continue to offer the AMG GT R and C 63 S Estate as the Safety and Medical Cars respectively. For the 2021 season, they are finished in the bright red shade of its Rote Sau racing car. The AMG GT R is powered with a 4.0L biturbo V8 engine capable of propelling the car from 0-97 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Mercedes has been providing the official Safety Cars since 1996 and this will be the first year that it will be sharing this responsibility.

Bernd Maylander will pilot both the Safety Cars, while Alan van der Merwe will take the wheel of the Medical Cars.
