Audi & Porsche join hands for cohesive vehicle development

Audi and Porsche, both members of the Volkswagen Automotive Group, have joined hands to jointly develop vehicles in the near future. The two automakers will be working on a wide range of automotive development, including electric vehicles, autonomous driving technologies and digital services.

Audi and Porsche were often considered hard core rivals as they competed against each other on the road as well as on track, despite being operated under the umbrella of Volkswagen. However, since Volkswagen is reported to have lost significant money due to the infamous dieselgate emissions scandal, the partnership is aimed to cut product development costs and thus aid overall profitability.

An official announcement from the Volkswagen Group suggests that joint teams from the two companies will soon decide the specific areas of collaboration and draft a roadmap that will be followed in the future. The companies will also be jointly cooperating in development of shared vehicle architectures, modules and components.
