Bajaj to set up its first design centre outside India

According to a media report, Bajaj Auto is planning to setup its first design centre outside India with an aim to boost exports and reduce its dependence on the domestic market.

Bajaj's first overseas design centre could come up in Thailand. The company also plans to setup a sales and marketing office in Bangkok and could place some its own staff from the sales, design and R&D departments there.

Reports suggest that Bajaj also has plans to setup assembly units outside India, especially in markets that have lower taxes. This would enable the company to offer locally assembled products at competitive prices compared to direct exports from India.

Meanwhile, export numbers for Bajaj are on the rise. The company exported 7.11 lakh motorcycles during the period of April-August 2018, registering a growth of 27% compared to the same period last year. 3-wheeler exports during the same period grew by 65% to 1.7 lakh units.
