Bengaluru authorities target superbikes for noise pollution

The Bengaluru traffic police has started a drive against superbikes for causing noise pollution in the authorities will fine the riders of premium motorcycles with a distinctive sound if they are caught for the first time. Riders caught for the second time will have their bikes impounded.

The city regulations permit two-wheelers to produce a sound of 80 decibels. The authorities claim that premium motorcycles can easily cross this limit and produce 200 decibels, which is almost impossible to believe.

Premium motorcycles have come with exhaust pipes that are suitable for their engines. These silencers are fitted by their manufacturers. The bikes have been homologated and have undergone through ARAI certification. Additionally, the authorities raise no objection while registering these bikes and collecting taxes.

A Supreme Court advocate has stated that vehicles making more than 80 decibels of sound should have their registrations revoked, but their owners should not be harassed with fines and penalties.
