BMW Concept 8-Series unveiled, previews new flagship coupe

The BMW Concept 8-Series has been unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. This BMW coupe concept is essentially a design study that offers a preview of the 8-Series Coupe that is expected to be launched internationally next year.

The 8-Series will become BMW's new flagship range. The German automaker claims that the upcoming production-spec 8-Series coupe will have a mixture of sporty dynamics and modern luxury. Technical details about the concept and production model haven't been revealed yet.

The Concept 8-Series appears to be an evolution of BMW's design language. The nose and tail get some inspiration from the BMW i8. The front fascia gets a snooping layout with a long bonnet, large kidney grille and slim swept-back headlights. The side profile adorns a sloping roofline that meets with the higher boot lid. A prominent air passage channel behind the front wheels and large alloys are the other design elements that characterize the car's side.

The interiors feature sports seats with carbon fibre shells, leather upholstery and hand-polished aluminium inserts on the steering wheel. Carbon fibre and aluminium inserts have also been added around the centre console and door pads.

The production-spec BMW 8-Series Coupe, which will be based on the concept, is expected to borrow its engine options from the 7-Series range. BMW is likely to pit its new flagship against the likes of the Mercedes-AMG S-Class coupe, Aston Martin DB11 and Bentley Continental GT.
