BYD Seagull EV could become China's best-selling electric car

The car will be offered in two variants, based on their driving range - one with 305 km and the other offering 405 km.

BYD - the Chinese EV maker, unveiled its latest electric vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show in the form of the Seagull EV.

The new BYD Seagull is a small electric hatchback, priced at 78,000 yuan ($11,300 or Rs 9.28 lakh) in the Chinese market. Once on sale, the new BYD hatchback will be among the most affordable EVs on sale in China.

The car will be offered in two variants, based on their driving range - one with 305 km and the other offering 405 km. The BYD Seagull will also come with a fast charging system, allowing the EV's lithium-iron-phosphate BYD Blade batteries to charge from 30% to 80% within 30 mins.

Reports state that experts predict the BYD Seagull EV could become an extremely popular product, not only in the domestic market but also internationally. Bill Russo, CEO of the strategy advisory firm Automobility, expects the Seagull EV to become China's best-selling car within six months of its launch.

Talking about overseas customers, Russo also stated, "Affordability is attractive to everyone anywhere, whether it's an emerging market, the United States or Europe, this kind of car with this kind of value proposition will sell."
