Electric Volvo XC40 to be unveiled on October 16, 2019

Volvo has teased its first electric car. The car is based on an XC40 and is expected to be unveiled on October 16, 2019.

The car comes with a battery pack placed on the floor of the vehicle, reducing the centre of gravity. Volvo claims that the frontal structure has been redesigned to ensure that the car meets Volvo's safety requirements without an internal combustion engine at the front. Even the rear of the car is said to be reinforced and the electric powertrain is said to be integrated into the body structure for better distribution of collision forces. The battery pack has a safety cage made from extruded aluminium.

The electric XC40 is expected to be the first Volvo to be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform. The platform consists of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors and is scalable. It could be modified to accommodate future autonomous drive technologies.
