Ex-BMW designer comes down hard on the 2-Series styling

Stephenson also states that when viewed from the side, the design of the new 2 Series looks 'Cartoonish'.

The 2022 BMW 2 Series was unveiled earlier this year. The new 2 Series features a lot of design updates, both to its exterior and interiors and most importantly features a conventional sized kidney grille, unlike its 4 Series sibling.

But, according to Frank Stephenson, an Ex-BMW designer, the return to the smaller grille on the 2 Series is the only commendable styling element on the entire car. Stephenson, responsible for multiple BMW car designs in the 1990s and early 2000s came down hard on the styling of the new 2 Series in a recent video.

The video starts off with Stephenson being pleasantly surprised by the small grille, rather than the large ones seen on the 4 Series. However, the rest of the front fascia, according to Stephenson is a bit of a mess with no real design language in place.

Stephenson also states that when viewed from the side, the design of the new 2 Series looks 'Cartoonish', thanks to the overly-long bonnet which would only make sense if there was V12 underneath. The criticism continues to the rear as well, with Frank stating that the rear tail lights have no connection to the headlamps and that there are multiple lines and creases, even when it's not required.
