F1: Valtteri Bottas joins Mercedes, Massa returns to Williams

Valtteri Bottas has officially joined the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team. He has thus replaced Nico Rosberg, who had announced his retirement from the sport after winning the 2016 World Driver's Championship. Bottas will be driving alongside teammate and three time world champion - Lewis Hamilton. Meanwhile, Felipe Massa will be returning to Williams to take the seat that has been left vacant by Bottas.

Various earlier reports had pointed that Williams decided to let go of Bottas after a deal with Mercedes that is reported to be closer to their full engine bill of £14.3m. Williams F1 cars source their engines from Mercedes.

Bottas (27) has now officially signed a one-year contract with Mercedes F1 team, which can be extended over time. Meanwhile, 35-year old Felipe Massa will be returning from his retirement to re-join Williams. He will thus be participating in his 15th Formula 1 season this year. Massa will be racing alongside Lance Stroll.
