Fully-electric Skoda Vision E concept unveiled

Skoda has unveiled its first fully-electric vehicle - the Vision E concept, ahead of its debut at the Shanghai Moto Show. The concept is expected to underpin the company's first production EV car, which will likely go on sale internationally by 2020. The Czech automaker is also aiming to have 5 pure EV cars in its portfolio by 2025.

The Vision E concept is based on the company's new design philosophy, which will eventually be spread over its entire product line-up. It is based on the Volkswagen Automotive Group's MEB platform. The electric car gets a crossover-coupe like styling, while some design cues appear to be inspired from the Kodiaq. The front gets a couple of light guides that stretch throughout the width of the car. One of these light guides is placed near the bonnet shut line, while the other has been embedded into the lower bumper.

The side profile is characterized by a sloping roof line, slightly beefed up wheel arches and diamond-cut alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear gets sharp LED tail lights and a blacked out bumper.

Powering the Vision E Concept are two electric motors that have a total output capacity of 225 kW, which equates to around 302 BHP. This power is sent to all four wheels through an all-wheel drive system, while a two-wheel drive variant will also be on offer. The company claimed top speed of the crossover is 180 km/h, with a total range of up to 500 km. The Vision E concept will also be able to charge 80% of its batteries in 30 minutes.
