How to fix the faulty auto-dimming IRVM in my Volvo

Could get it replaced under an extended warranty, but trying to find a fix till then.

BHPian vjbox recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My V40 CC has an auto-dimming IRVM with a compass and apparently, the unit is faulty. The highlight is that it has been this way since I bought and I thought the unit never had Auto-dimming in the early years. We all know the pain of driving at night on the highways where literally everyone appears from behind with their high beam on. I showed this to Martial Motors Bangalore during the second service and they claimed it worked and during the recent check-up, it has been confirmed by the TN Volvo service centre that the unit doesn't work. They won't repair the unit and will need to go for a replacement unit - so I am pushing this under extended warranty. It could be a long affair as the service centre needs to write to Volvo and hopefully get this approved.

Here is the video from the service centre comparing the faulty unit with another working unit.

In the meantime, I was wondering if anything can be done to repair it. What would be the cause of auto-dimming not working and if this can be repaired? Any leads for a potential fix in Chennai would be really helpful.

Here's what BHPian WorkingGuru had to say on the matter:

If you have an extended warranty, it must absolutely be replaced by FOC. Why should you bother about repairing it?

All car makers have a dedicated channel for communication between the service centre & company for warranty replacement approvals. ASCs' correspondence with the company shouldn't take long.

If they take an unreasonable amount of time, mail them & tell them that if they want to be considered worthy of calling themselves a premium brand, then such inefficiencies cannot be tolerated.
