Hyundai cars could get LED display on the front grilles

Hyundai is yet to announce which of its vehicles will be the first to receive the new tech.

According to reports, Hyundai is working on integrating an LED display onto the front grilles in some of its future models. Reports suggest that an individual on Reddit identified Hyundai as the end customer of a project: a full-colour LED matrix display, meant to be used on a vehicle's front grille.

However, the leak isn't a big surprise, as Hyundai itself had shown interest in having a front grille integrated with an intelligent lighting system and an LED display. Having said that, the leak could indicate that the South Korean carmaker might be looking to build a proof of concept or be ready for something scalable for a future model.

Reports though make it clear that the front grille won't feature a full high-resolution display but rather a grid of LEDs arranged in a 71x32 layout. Hyundai could couple them with small LED units to increase the coverage area and offer a slightly higher resolution.

Hyundai is yet to announce which of its vehicles will be the first to receive the new tech. Although, based on Hyundai's pattern, it is most likely to debut on one of the brand's upcoming EVs.

Before introducing the new tech on a production model, Hyundai will have to quash a few concerns. A complicated LED display at the front of the vehicle could increase costs significantly. Secondly, Hyundai will have to get around the legal issues of not being allowed to use red and blue colours at the front, which is generally reserved for emergency vehicles.
