Hyundai invests in WayRay to develop holographic AR Sat-Nav

Hyundai has announced an investment in Swiss startup WayRay to develop a holographic augmented reality (AR) navigation system for future vehicles. The company plans to introduce such a system in its cars by 2020.

WayRay is a holographic AR technology company based in Zurich. It was founded in 2012. The company has developed hardware and software for holographic AR display systems, which seamlessly integrate virtual objects into the vehicle's interior.

WayRay's projection system is smaller compared to conventional head-up displays and is claimed to provide a clearer image. It can even project a display covering the entire windshield and can also be integrated into the side windows.

The system can be used to display traffic information, navigation, speed and real-time information about crosswalks, pedestrians, roads and warning signs. It could also be incorporated with autonomous driving technology in the future.
