I like my Jimny, but why I will never buy a Maruti Suzuki car again

I have owned a Zen Estilo and a Maruti Swift previously as well.

BHPian RijuC recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

  • Never thought I'd buy a Suzuki car again (after Zen Estilo 2009 and Swift 2016). However, since it was Jimny, I changed my decision and booked the Jimny on 12th January 2023. MSIL was sitting cool on our booking money of 25k for 5 months without giving us any clear idea of the car launch and delivery timeframe. Though it was a voluntary decision by the early buyers, the bitterness started from there.
  • June first week, 2023; Jimny was finally launched and delivery started. Again, their dealerships started the hype strategy and didn't deliver the vehicle to the buyers in a queue according to the booking order.
  • Since I needed an AT with off-the-tarmac capabilities, decided to go ahead with the booking though the final price was approximately 2.5 lakhs more than my original budget of 14 lakhs for Alpha AT.
  • I had to book the Jimny from two more dealerships since the largest dealership in Gurgaon didn't deliver up to 3rd week of July 2023. Meanwhile, I was getting calls from other dealerships that if I was ready to pay a 75k premium for the accessories, they could deliver the Jimny readily. I have uploaded the tele-conversation again on YouTube. I was not ready to pay any premium for the car and continued to wait for my turn.
  • Ultimately, got the delivery on 28th July from a fourth dealership from their ready stock, without any demand for premium and inflated insurance.

However, I was happy and completed 5 long trips. Jimny is just perfect for our regular Gurgaon no-roads.

  • However, from October onwards, heavy discounts started and somewhere I feel that I have been tricked (or fooled) by MSIL. I could have saved 2-3 lakhs rupees. It's a big money for me considering the slowdown of my professional sector and increasing inflation, skyrocketing home EMI and other daily expenditures. We do not usually see a 10-18% discount on automobiles just for the year-end inventory clearing.

My feelings are mixed now:

  1. Good compact car with a narrow body
  2. Too much cost-cutting for a premium niche category lifestyle-centric vehicle,
  3. I feel that I have been tricked/ fooled by MSIL since the beginning (I do not want to use any harsh words since it was my choice to book, wait till June, book from two more dealerships, still wait),
  4. Service staff are not trained for servicing the Jimny, lack of spares, initial niggles, no resolution of problems from MSIL,
  5. Conclusion: I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANY SUZUKI CAR/ MSIL CAR if I have to buy any car in the remaining years of my life.

I love my Jimny, and I HATE MSIL.
