India-made Renault Kwid for South Africa scores 2-stars

The Kwid was evaluated as part of the #Safercarsforafrica campaign.

Global NCAP has awarded the South Africa-spec Renault Kwid a 2-star safety rating. The car is manufactured in India.

The Kwid offered adequate protection to the driver’s head and good protection to the passenger’s head. It offered good neck protection for both occupants. Driver chest showed weak protection and passenger chest showed adequate protection. Driver knees showed marginal protection, while passenger knees showed adequate and marginal protection. Driver tibias showed adequate protection while passenger tibias showed good protection. The bodyshell and footwell area was rated as unstable.

The child seat for the 3 year old was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact below the 550 mm limit. Head and chest protection was limited as the Child Restraint System (CRS) showed structural failure during the test. Head protection for the 18 month old was also limited as the head contacted the interior of the car during the impact.

The test car was equipped with front seat belt pretensioners, dual front airbags, seat belt reminder and ABS. The car does not offer 3 point seat belts in all seating positions and does not come with ISOFIX anchorages.

The Made-in-India Kwid had scored 0 stars in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests conducted in 2018.
