Jaguar returns to global motorsport with entry into Formula E

Jaguar has announced its return to global motorsport. In the autumn of 2016, Jaguar will enter the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship as a manufacturer with its own team. The team entry has been granted by Formula E and approved by the FIA.

The FIA Formula E series is the world's first global single-seater championship for electric powered cars. The British company is looking at the series as an opportunity to aid the development of future EV powertrains including motor and battery technology. It believes that Formula E will provide a real world performance test bed for its technology.

Jaguar Land Rover employs over 8,000 engineers and is the UK's largest investor in research and development across any business sector. The company's engineers will work directly with the Formula E team.

Williams Advanced Engineering will be technical partner to the Jaguar Formula E Team. Jaguar Land Rover has a long term relationship with Williams. The Oxforshire-based company was involved in the development of the Jaguar C-X75 plug-in hybrid concept car.

Jaguar had participated in Formula One between 2000 and 2004. The team did not win a single race in the period.
