July Car Sales - Bloodbath continues

The car industry has been witnessing an unprecedented slow down in the past few months. According to the latest figures, the downward trend continued in July 2019. 

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India was by far the worst hit. Only 511 units were sold in July as opposed to 843 units in the previous month. That's a 39.4% drop in sales. Compared to the previous year, FCA India sales have gone down by 58.5%. This includes Jeep sales which were down 35.8%.

Renault recorded a 32.2% reduction in sales compared to the previous month. 3,660 cars were sold in July, compared to 5,400 in June. Sales were down 41.1% compared to the previous year.

Tata Motors' sales dropped by 21.5% in July 2019. The automaker sold 10,485 units as opposed to 13,351 units in June 2019.

Ford sold 6,284 units in July, compared to 5,333 units in June 2019. That's an increase of 17.8%. The carmaker registered a year-on-year degrowth of 19.6%.

Nissan sales slumped by 21.9% in July 2019, compared to the previous month. It also registered a year-on-year degrowth of 43.4%. Datsun registered a 12.5% reduction in sales and a 55.9% year-on-year degrowth.

Maruti Suzuki saw a 13.2% drop in sales compared to June 2019. The carmaker had sold 1,11,014 units in June, which dropped to 96,400 units in July.

Brands like Hyundai, Mahindra, Honda and Toyota registered a single-digit degrowth. Meanwhile, Volkswagen and Skoda sales rose by 1.5% and 9.0% respectively.
