Kia Seltos recalled in USA over a possible fire risk

Kia has issued a recall of the Seltos and Soul models, powered by the 2.0-litre petrol engine, over a possible fire risk. Over 1.47 lakh units are said to have been affected.

Kia has recalled the Seltos and Soul models in the USA over a possible fire risk. The company is said to have recalled a combined total of 147,249 units, all of which are powered by the brand's 2.0-litre Nu MPi four-cylinder engine.

According to reports, the affected engine on both the Kia Seltos and Soul models feature piston rings, which could have been improperly heat-treated. This could lead to either an engine stall or even a potential fire risk. Kia has, however, confirmed that they haven't registered any incident due to this issue.

The company also states that the affected vehicles will have their engines completely torn down at their authorised service network. Kia will also install a noise sensing system software in the engine, ensuring the issue is better monitored in the future.

The Kia Seltos was the first product from the brand in the Indian market. However, the India-spec model hasn’t been affected as it doesn’t feature the 2.0-litre engine.

The crossover is due for an update next week. Kia is said to introduce the brand's new logo on the Seltos, while also offering a new 'Gravity Edition' variant.
