KTM to part-build Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen, Svartpilen in India

Stefan Pierer, President and CEO of KTM, has revealed that two Husqvarna motorcycles will be part built in India.

The Husqvarna 401 Vitpilen and 401 Svartpilen motorcycles, which were unveiled at EICMA in 2014, will enter production in 2016 and go on sale in 2017. The rolling chassis for the bikes will be built at the KTM-Bajaj factory in Chakan, near Pune and shipped to Austria with the engine installed. Both bikes will use the same 373.2 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, water-cooled engine as the KTM 390 Duke. The final assembly of the bikes will take place in Matighoffen (Austria).

Both the 401 Vitpilen and 401 Svartpilen feature classic styling. While the Vitpilen is more road-focussed, the Svartpilen looks more rugged and capable of off-roading.

It is possible that KTM launches the Husqvarna brand in India sometime in the future.
