KTM unveils TFT instrument cluster with Android OS

The touchscreen runs on Android Automotive OS, allowing riders to customise their user interface.

KTM has unveiled its latest pair of digital instrument clusters for its future motorcycles. The new digital instrument clusters from KTM now get TFT touchscreens with connected tech and revised handlebar controls.

The touchscreens further come in two formats: 8-inch vertical and 8.8-inch horizontal screens, both with 1280x720p resolutions. The new high-resolution screens claim improved visibility, reduced susceptibility to glare, and support 2,56,000 colours - a significant rise from the 65,000 colours on the current screens.

The screens also come with touchscreen technology, allowing a few feature controls to be integrated into the display, eliminating the need for physical switches. Some of these features include heated grips, rider-heated seats, and fog lights; among others, depending on the model. The touchscreen can be operated with riding gloves or even during wet weather conditions.

The touchscreen runs on Android Automotive OS, allowing riders to customise their user interface. This includes a split-screen option with up to 5 layout options. Riders can also choose what information to display on the home screen, while also allowing easy access to navigation, telemetry data, music controls, and a few other basic functions.

Along with the touchscreen display, KTM is also said to have revised the handlebar switchgear. There will now be a dedicated button to select the ride modes, a joystick to navigate the TFT interface, dedicated controls for the cruise control, and an AMT button. Since the screen runs on Android Automotive OS, it also gets KTM's latest Computer Control Unit (CCU), which offers connectivity with GPS, Bluetooth & Wi-Fi devices.
