Royal Enfield has reportedly paused sales of the Scram 440 after owners reported an issue with starting their bikes. However, there hasn’t been any formal announcement for a recall.
The issue affecting the Scram 440 is said to be caused by a faulty Woodruff key within the magneto. It is isolated to some motorcycles, where the engine fails to start after it has been running for some time. That being said, the engine does not stall abruptly while riding.
According to media reports, around 2% of the bikes sold so far have been affected by this issue. In the wake of this, the company has paused bookings since April 10. Meanwhile, the faulty component is being replaced with a new part on the affected bikes.
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 was launched in January this year. It is powered by a 443cc engine that is based on the same unit as the Scram 411. This single-cylinder unit produces 25 BHP @ 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm @ 4,000 rpm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
Bookings for the Scram 440 are said to resume in June 2025.
