Land Rover Discovery Sport India launch in August 2015

Land Rover has confirmed that they will launch the Discovery Sport SUV in India this year. The launch is set to take place in August 2015. Internationally, the Discovery Sport is offered with both petrol and diesel engines. However, the Indian model is expected to only feature the 2.2-litre diesel and not the Si4 2.0-litre petrol.

The engine will be offered in two states of tune i.e. 187 bhp and 147 bhp, with both variants mated with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. According to the report by Autocar, Land Rover is also likely to launch the Indian version exclusively in the high-spec HSE guise. The feature list will include Land Rover’s new InControl 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather seats, electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic roof, xenon headlamps, dual-zone climate control and the "Terrain Response" four wheel drive system. In markets such as Europe, the Discovery Sport also gets a first-in-class pedestrian airbag and autonomous emergency braking, but the Indian spec Discovery Sport may not see such additions.

The Discovery Sport is being produced at Land Rover’s manufacturing facility at Halewood, Liverpool. However, it will be sold in India via the CKD route, with the assembly taking place at the brand's plant in Pune. Prices are expected to range from Rs 42-50 Lakh. With the arrival of the new SUV, Land Rover will also phase out the Freelander 2.
