Maharashtra: Govt waives off road tax on CVs for 6 months

The Maharashtra government has approved a Rs. 700 crore road tax waiver for commercial vehicles. The move comes amidst the losses suffered by the transportation sector due to the coronavirus lockdown.

It is said that the waiver could help upto 11.4 lakh commercial vehicle owners. The waiver is for a period of six months, from April 1 to September 30, 2020. Vehicles like tourist taxis, mini-buses and buses, school buses, private service vehicles, trucks, tankers and stage-carriage vehicles will benefit from this.

Transport Minister Anil Parab took the lead to get the waiver passed in cabinet. Others states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Haryana have already waived road tax for all types of commercial vehicles.
