Mahindra BE 6e renamed as 'BE 6' after IndiGo objects to trademark

India’s largest airline has been assigned the callsign ‘6E’.

Mahindra will temporarily rename its new electric SUV, the 'BE 6e' to 'BE 6', following IndiGo Airline’s objection to the trademark. However, the carmaker will challenge the claim in court.

Mahindra recently revealed its all-new electric SUV, the BE 6e. The name, which has been trademarked under Class 12, was challenged by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., which owns the rights for the ‘6E’ trademark.

India’s largest airline has been assigned the callsign ‘6E’, which is a key identifier of its branding. It is used for a wide range of passenger services, including seat selection, priority check-in, complimentary snacks, etc.

Mahindra maintains its trademark is registered under a different section. It also uses the ‘BE’ prefix, representing the brand’s ‘born electric’ platform. It differentiates it from IndiGo’s standalone ‘6E’ identifier.

That being said, the carmaker has decided to temporarily rename the electric SUV until the trademark dispute is resolved.
