Mahindra-Ford SUV to get 1.5L turbo-petrol engine

Mahindra and Ford are jointly developing a new SUV that will be unveiled in FY2022. According to a media report, the car is expected to be sold under both, Mahindra and Ford brands and is expected to be powered by Mahindra's 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The vehicles are rumoured to be codenamed Mahindra S204 and Ford B745 and are likely to be offered with the G15 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine from the SsangYong Korando. This engine produces 161 BHP. The Marazzo is also likely to get the same engine as well. Additionally, the new SUV could also get a 1.5-litre diesel engine option.

The new SUV is expected to be based on a monocoque chassis and could have an overall length of 4.3 meters. The Mahindra version is expected to be positioned below the next-generation XUV500. Mahindra's version could be called the XUV400.

In October 2019, we had reported that Mahindra and Ford had announced a joint venture to develop three new utility vehicles. The two brands are planning to collaborate to develop electric vehicles for emerging markets as well.
