According to a media report, Mahindra is likely to commence production of the Thar 5-door in June. The SUV is expected to be launched in the second half of this year.
A recent trademark filing indicates that the 5-door version of the Thar could be called Armada. That being said, Mahindra has also trademarked other nametags like Thar Centurion, Thar Gladius, Thar Rex, Thar Roxx and Thar Savannah.
The Thar 5-door is also expected to get a few cosmetic updates over the 3-door version. The SUV will have a different front grille and bumpers, new tail lamps and unique alloy wheels.
The Thar 5-door is expected to be better equipped than the 3-door. It will feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and sunroof; among others.
The Thar 5-door will be offered with the same engine options as the 3-door version. These include a 2.2-litre diesel producing 130 BHP and 300 Nm and a 2.0-litre petrol that makes 150 BHP and 300-320 Nm. Both engines are likely to be offered with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.
