Mahindra Racing announces Moto3 exit after 2017 season

Mahindra Racing has announced that it will exit Moto3 as a manufacturer after the end of the ongoing 2017 season. The reason behind this decision is being attributed to the company's shift in strategy towards Formula E, where the team recently recorded its first-ever win at the Berlin ePrix.

Mahindra Racing stepped into Moto3 in 2011 as a team. It restructured itself as a bike and engine supplier from 2015. Mahindra currently supplies Moto3 bikes to factory-supported Aspar squad, customer outfit CIP and Peugeot. Last year was the company's most successful season as it won three races. However, the 2017 season hasn't brought much success for the manufacturer as all three outfits of Mahindra Racing have failed to score any points in four of the first seven races.

The company has claimed that it did a strategic review of Mahindra Racing and the manufacturer's two-wheeler arm, before deciding the Moto3 exit. The company will continue to participate in Formula E, which, it believes, is providing an ideal international platform for Mahindra's electric mobility efforts.
