Mahindra Racing appoints Chandok, Senna drivers for Formula E

Mahindra Racing has announced that Karun Chandok and Bruno Senna will drive for the team in the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

The 10-round Formula E Championship will start in September this year and finish in June 2015. It will be held in various cities across the world, the first race being in Beijing and the last in London. The zero emission series is the world's first fully electric racing series and is designed to spread awareness about electric vehicles and help advance EV technology. All teams will run the zero-emission SRT-01E racing car with batteries producing 200 kW (equivalent of 268 bhp).

Mahindra Racing is the only Indian team out of a total of ten to have entered the championship. While it is no stranger to international motorsports, this is the first time it is venturing into car racing. Preparations for the season are already underway. The team's first car has been delivered and painted in the team's livery which is a combination of Mahindra red and the colours of India's national flag.

Mahindra, the maker of the e2o electric car, claims that its participation in the championship will help it develop the next generation of electric road cars.

In the past, Karun Chandok has both competed in various levels of on the international racing scene including Formula 1, FIA World Endurance Championship incorporating the 24 hours of Le Mans, A1 GP Series, GP2 and Race of Champions Asia.

Bruno Senna has previously competed in Formula 1, FIA World Endurance Championship, Blancpain Endurance Series, American Le Mans Series and Brazilian Stock Car V8s.
